The dissemination of Christianity in modern China is an important content of the exchange between China and the West culture.We can clearly see the conflict and syncretism between Christianity and Chinese culture by reviewing the missionary's role in it,and analysis this particular method of exchange between China and the West culture from the view of culture communication.I hope to study the founder of the British China Inland Mission—the Britain missionary J.H.Taylor's activity of disseminating Christianity in China,to clear up Taylor's subjective search and limited practice in the Chinese Christianity's Indigenization,and review his practice's particular effect on the Christianity's dissemination in modern China and the cause of his subjective search which failed to wholly realize.Chinese Christian was a principal part who applied themselves to construct Chinese Christianity's Indigenization in the 20th century.The Countrywide Chinese Christianity Convention advanced definitely a proclamation of Chinese Church Indigenization for the first time in 1922,sith, a large-scale movement of Chinese Christianity's Indigenization spreaded thereout . However,a handful of western missionaries had seen that Christianity's Indigenization in China was necessary and feasibility in the late 19th century.The Britain missionary Taylor(1832～1905) was one of them,His practice method of Chinese Christianity's Indigenization mainly included three aspects:firstly,he found churches in the backland of China to realize the indigenization of the area of dissemination,and this provided the living space for Chinese Christianity's Indigenization.Secondly,he adapted himself to Chinese traditional culture and folk custom to realize the lifeway's indigenization,in order to dull the Chinese hostility and antipathy to the Christianity,and this provided the survival soil for the realization of Chinese Christianity's Indigenization.Thirdly,he bent himself to cultivating the Chinese mainland missionary,and seeked to found the complete Chinese church,and this provided the real-life carrier for the realization of the Chinese Christianity's Indigenization.On the one hand,Taylor's idea and practice in the process of Chinese Christianity's Indigenization cultivated many mainland missionaries for Chinese church,on the other hand,they made lots of Chinese cognize Christianity.However,Objectively speaking,he was a missionary from the Europe after all,the West notion and faith restricted his idea and behavior at a certain extent,so his effect had definite localization,so Taylor's pursuance of Chinese Christianity's Indigenization did not entirely realized.
