Some Thoughts Upon Chinese-English Poem Translation Criticism Inspired By Bakhtin's Dialogism

The thesis discusses the problem of poetry translation criticism in the perspective of Bakhtin's dialogue theory. Bakhtin, who was Russian researcher of literature theory in the early 20th century, put forth the dialogue theory. With the development of his research on the dialogue theory, he further thinks that the formation of various literature works are formed by dialogue; and the meaning of literature works also are expressed in the process of dialogue. The dialogue can produce the thoughts. And the dialogue can promote the development of human beings continuously. He holds that the dialogue is the essence of language and the language would not exert its function without the dialogue.Based on dialogue theory, the author proposes that the translation is dialogism. According to some scholars'research on dialogue theory and Shi Zhongyi's lepandialogime, the author argues and analyzes the existence and characteristics of poetic dialogue. And the author further puts forth the proposition of"poetic dialogue analysis", including six essential elements, namely, context, subject, sense, image, reader and text form. Then the author discusses the rationality and applicability of"poetic dialogue analysis"to poetry translation criticism.In conclusion, the thesis studies poetry translation criticism in perspective of dialogue theory with the proposition of"poetic dialogue analysis"through particular translated poems. The author hopes that this thesis can shed light on poetry translation criticism and promote its development.
