In the modern history of Chinese art, there were some outstanding painters who were forgotten by the writers of art history because they were pushed out of the main tide of temporal art. However, when people calmed down after the disputing between Chinese and western minds, we found in surprise that the achievements of these practicers, who were unknown to public at that time, were indeed amazing.Comparing with the contemporaneous writers, their works might not take much responsibility of society and history of art, but they surely took the duty as artists. In the last century, there was a Chinese artist who just lived a kind of depraved life as Modigliani in Paris. He devoted all his love and life to painting, and was called"Matisse in China" by people of the day. His name is Changyu, who was a great painter forgotten by the world.Changyuis a typical tragic feature of the painters who spent their life abroad in France in early times. Meanwhile, he is a great feature who got great achievements when struggling for his belief in art. Time flies. Our generation should take the responsibility of illuminating the greatness of his works. This paper consists of three parts: foreword, text and conclusion, and there are four chapters of the text.
