A Comparative Study Of Xie Jin And Zhang Yimou

In the Chinese movie history, Xie Jin and Zhang Yimou are two diectors who have symbolic charecters. They are the movie artists who are infected by the similar ethnic culture. Their spirits are hit profoundly by national culture brand, as a result, both of them have the same aesthetic considerations. However, Influenced by the different values and cultures in differnet times, they not only have experienced differently, but have differences in the artistic pursit.In the first place, this paper elaborated three aspects according to their works' similarities : Firstly, generally speaking, their works both hold strong views on "the female consciousness". Secondly, Xie Jin and Zhang Yimou' movies mainly narrate the unusual life experiences of leading characters, and are of brightly legendary color. Thirdly, their ultimate goal in pursuing to the movie art are the same "perfection".In the second place, this article analyze and elaborate the similarities and differences of their works from comparing the female image, the narrative strategy and life consciousness described in their works Fistly,we think most of the films directed by Xie Jin and Zhang Yimou give expressions to female's feelings and portray a series of vivid feminine image, complying with the principles of conflict when narrating. Secondly,history and culture as they all involved, their works are certainly not barren, for they catch hold of the expectation of a man which is passion and the survival condition .
