Discussing He Qifang's Modern Poetry Theory

He Qifang is famous literary theoretician, poet and writer. In the history of contemporary literature, the theory of modern metrics raised by He Qifang is of great impact. During building the poem theory, he doesn't only pay attention to inheriting the tradition of Chinese ancient metrics, have drawn lessons from the number and rhymed law of classical poems with five or seven characters to a line, but also think over the trait of modern Chinese, create the modern metrics that can fit the structure of modern language and characteristic and have a tidy sentence type and distinct rhythm and rhyme. This text studies the theory around He Qifang's poem theory, probes into its contribution to the new poem theory, and comment to his modern metrics mainly. The whole text can be divided into three parts: To analyze the relationship between He Qifang's creation of new poems and the trends of new poems creation, introduce his poems and their characteristic in part one. To discuss He Qifang's building and constructing of new poems and the feature of his new poem theory in part two. To probe into He Qifang's theory of modern metrics, propose the aesthetic meaning of the modern metrics and find out the deficiency and defect of his theory, predict the development trend of the modern metrics theory. He Qifang's new poem theory proposed since 1953 caused strong response in the poem educational circles in our country. Especially his theory of modern metrics is the rare achievement in the Chinese poem theoretical research since the 1940s. After a period of controversy, though we have not made the opinion of consistency on some questions, most people have been sure of it. Hereafter, with the constant increasing of researchers, they demonstrated different views on the theory, some even opposite views. It is very normal. In view of this, this text will mainly talk about He Qifang's poetry creation and poem theory, base on the new poems, try best to study comprehensively and systematically He Qifang's new poem theory, the aesthetic meaning and development trend of his modern metrics theory.
