In modern society, people pay more attention to the English application capacity, especially the communicative ability. Correspondingly, people attach importance to the instruments that accelerate the English instruction. Since entering 21st century, with the advancement of science and technology, the development of modern teaching means and teaching medium improves the educational facilities and teaching environment in China obviously. Digital language laboratory becomes the main instrument in College English audio-visual instruction, since it create the lively teaching environment that the traditional teaching instruments can't be compared with. Comparing with the multimedia language lab and the simulated language laboratory, the digital language laboratory is the main mean as most advanced and promising instrument. It changed the teacher-centered classroom teaching mode to feature the learners'function as teaching subjects that improves their listening and speaking abilities and gives a full expression to their application capacity. In the process of applying modern teaching means, the College English audio-visual instruction developed with new problems and new demand.In the same teaching environment, that is, the digital language laboratory, the different teaching methods will lead to the different influence. To the different teaching objects, the author takes the two different teaching methods ---- the traditional teacher-centered and the self-learning with tutoring ---- in a year, to menstruate the teaching effect of the two teaching methods.In this paper, the author analyses the application effects from the introduction of integrating College English audio-visual instruction and the function and theoretical background of the digital language laboratory, and predicts the future College English audio-visual teaching environment. The author takes two classes in the same level as teaching objects, draws the conclusions from comparing the results of questionnaire to academic records, learning interest, learning attitude and cooperative learning. At the basis of admitting that the digital language laboratory helps to the College English audio-visual instruction, the author hopes to find the reasons that influence the teaching effect and their relation, and to improve the College English audio-visual instruction and the college students capacity to apply English.
