The Research Of The Positive Illusion In Parent-Child Relationship

Current research focus on the positive illusion in a dating or marriage relationship, that is to say, lovers a lways idealize each other and take their partners as the best ones, such positive illusions help to increase the satisfaction one both sades. Parent-child relationshipis an important way for people to obtain emotions likes love and marriage. Murry pointed that there are also positive illusion in parent-child relationship as the marital relationship, but for the parent-child relations, yet some related theoretical and demonstrational researches are still seldom seen..This study selected 125 families, who were asked to estimate themselves,their parents(children) and the others through a variety of interpersonal attributes. Taking the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model as the researching model to discussed the construction and the influence of the positive illusion.in parent-child relationship. The conclusions are educed:(1)Students' evaluation of their father and mother are on a significant level, as is concretely revealed that the girls'image of her father was significantly higher than boys; the boys'image of the mother were significantly higher than girls. the parents'evaluation of of their children have no gender differences.(2)There were significantly differences between urban and rural areas students'and parents' self-image, parent-child image, impression and relationship satisfaction of others;Specific point of view, living for the rural students and parents self-image, the impression on the parents, the impression to others, and relationship satisfaction degree were significantly higher than urban students and parents.(3)The student's self-image was significantly lower than self-image of father and mother; in parent-child image,the children' image of parents was significantly higher than parents' image of students; Both the students and parents has no significant differences in the image of others.(4)students'image of parents was significantly higher than the parents'self-image, indicating that students'evaluation of parents was more positive than their parents'self-evaluation; parents' image of their children was significantly higher than the impression of the other children, indicating that parents evaluate their children more positive than the other children.(5)Fathers'evaluation of the students was significantly lower than the mothers'evaluation of the students, indicating that mothers treat their children more positive than fathers treat their children; father and the childrens'relationship satisfaction was significantly lower than the mother and the childrens'relationship satisfaction. (6)Parent self-image significantly predicted the children's image of their parents;The childrens'self-image were significant predictors of parental impression; children and parents' impression of theirselves and the parent-child impression can significantly predict self-perceived relationship satisfaction.This results showed that positive illusion phenomenon also occured in the parent-child relationship and has a positive prediction. on parent-child relationship satisfaction.
