The second language vocabulary study since 1970s had gradually become the hot and key points. Researches on it in China had made great headway both in theoretical construction and empirical study, but there are still some annoying and prominent problems which affect most of English learners'acquisition. Researches show that a big problem in the second language vocabulary acquisition is emphasizing understanding of semantics while ignoring application of vocabularies; more efforts are made to improve the size of vocabulary while non or less efforts to depth of vocabulary; receptive vocabularies far outweigh productive vocabularies. This thesis focuses on these problems. The oral-task teaching approach is a teaching and learning method with oral tasks as the core of output, which is a newly refined task teaching approach. The oral tasks are put forward based on the texts and target vocabularies so that these vocabularies could be used in communication in order to complete these tasks. in this process, students can master not only the meaning of vocabularies but also the application of them, which is the real acquisition of vocabulary. The experiment about it was conducted in Hebei Normal University for the students of college English. The ratio between receptive vocabulary and productive vocabulary has been improved from 2.2:1 to 1.3:1 after implementation of oral task-based teaching approach; at the same time students' confidence and oral English also improved.Through the research, it can be seen that oral task teaching approach is very helpful for second language vocabulary acquisition, as with its help students can acquire more productive vocabulary and students can communicate more effectively.
