In order to have a deeper understanding and a closer pursuit of the artist, this thesis attempts to analyze Shiko Munakata from four aspects, including the introduction of his lifetime and creative themes, his work form language, the aesthetic value and mark of the time in his works, and his impact on later generations. The history of Japanese modern block print plays a significant role in that history of the world, of which Shiko Munakata's block print art has the most profound influence. Though we can purchase various kinds of the painting albums of his version in bookstores, a specific study of his creative language is not available. In the form of outline, this thesis studies the painting language of Shiko Munakata, the decorative naitonal complex in his paintings, the application of his skillful craft, his pioneer form and flexible block print skills, the application of dialogue in figure block print and the comparison study of black and white, the randomness and representation of real feeling in scenic block print, and the recreation of the traditional Buddhist figures.Emphasizing Shiko Munakata's national painting consciousness, the analysis of all these seven aspects tries to tell readers that the creation of art is rooted in their culture and through his absorption of his own culture in block print creation, Shiko Munakata makes his national culture a further development, thus setting his high position in art creation. After the analysis of his block print on the form of content and also for a deeper understanding of implied language of his works, this thesis lists the artist to the general theory of art which analyzes Shiko Munakata from the perspectives of form and performance respectively, emphasizing further development of his form language, the meaning of emotion and extending Susan Langue's concept of art. Concise language on the performance of their unique performance or even a highly condensed summary will be the origin that projecting performance into art, into a simple, primitive general generalization. The brief analysis of Shiko Munakata's works in form and performance details the art form of his works into the specific aspect of decorative language, making it clear that the national root of his painting language relying on the flat nature of the oriental art, having a profound artistic conception and connotation. Comparing to the reason-dominant western art, the oriental art is far more profound. Shiko Munakata's block print art clearly shows the beauty of pure, is full of childlike imagination, and constitutes a rather harmonious oriental picture in a"casual"craft. The turn of the era in Japanese painting, coupled with a profound historical background of the largest integration of the world's art situation paved the road of his glorious success, thus making a great contribution in upgrading the block print in the world's art history.
