Visual Communication Design refers to the behavior of conveying information by designer cooperating with the media. With the continuous development of human civilization, the advancement of science and technology, visual communication design has reached an unprecedented development. Delighted at the variety of visual Communication Design, People have ignored this kind of diversity also bring about the sense of visual fatigue to the audience at the same time, so some visual communication designers are forced to take insight into the audience's attention with the most sensitive sense. Unlike writing novels, making movies, there are a lot of time and the screen to present content to the audience, though the designers of Visual Communication Design have a thousand words to tell the audience, but viewers will not give you so much time, other competitors also will not be silent. How to deliver the information accurately and efficiently has become a bottleneck of modern visual Communication Design, so that the audience could take note of the complicated ideas in the design of their own work at first sight, and bear in mind your works from ever-changing forms of media. As a visual communication designer, how to break the bottleneck of this design also has become the focus at present. In this paper, we are beginning with the history of graphic symbols domestic and abroad, analyzing the development of graphic symbols, and learning from some theory and literature of semiotic historically for reference to understand the created brilliant achievements in the development of graphic symbols. From these, Not only could we obtain valuable theoretical base or experiences, but also could explore its value and meaning in visual communication design from the intricate relationships of graphics and symbols. Making use of the analysis of business case studies, we can find its significant business value and social significance in visual communication design. Besides, for the re-creation of graphic symbol, I also do some deep research and refer to some arguments of relevant scholars, finally gain abundant connotation, such as, the context diversity, concrete and abstract expression of graphic symbol. Graphic symbol often with visual, vivid, expressive feature, and the most important is that Graphical symbols allow people to memorize fast in a short time, to distinguish from the complicated visual information and cater to visual fatigue of the audience physiologically, so that can make our design stand out. Compatible with the Linguistic symbol, Graphic symbol is able to visualize abstract concepts, induce people's emotions through image and scene. Actually, the function of graphic symbol in Visual communication design, is to attract audience attention, to stimulate people's interest, to guide the audience to understand the visual semantic information, and strengthen the audience's impression of the entire design.At the same time, it also has the aesthetic function. This article is intended to study the important role of graphic symbols in visual communication design, and try my best to inject fresh blood into the modern visual communication design.
