Beijing Olympic Games of 2008 attracted the whole world's attention. The opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games successfully exhibits Chinese culture to the world. However, to the same scenes and culture show, the language styles of commentaries of China Central Television (CCTV) and National Broadcasting Company (NBC) were totally different. This thesis takes CCTV's and NBC's commentaries of the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games as study object, analyzes CCTV's and NBC's commentaries through language style element analysis and stylistic analysis, from cultural background, professional background, phonological level, syntactic level etc., reaches a conclusion that CCTV's and NBC's commentaries of the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games have different language styles. According to the analysis and comparison, this thesis has found out four culture elements which influence commentary language styles--the Sino-American values, high and low cultural contexts, the Sino-American TV culture and Sino-American religious beliefs.This study may help language learners understand the relationship between language style and culture, so that they can use languages more properly in communication and language study.
