Self-efficacy refers to beliefs about one's ability to perform any given task or behavior successfully. The reason why I pay close attention to this theme is that it can not only conducive to the improvement of English weak-learners' studies and the influence of their ways of facing difficulties but also improve the quality and the development of education. There have been some domestic researches on English weak-learners' self-efficacy in primary school and middle school in this field, but that in independent colleges are still absent. English weak-learners in independent college are different from English weak-learners in primary school, middle school and common higher college in knowledge level, English basics, teaching objective and teaching method so that the English weak-learners'self-efficacy in independent college may be different from English weak-learners in primary school, middle school and common higher college. Based on this basic hypothesis, I randomly selected 400 English weak-learners and 50 non-English weak-learners from three independent colleges and one common higher college in Chongqing as my research object and I used the questionnaire research method, which presented the status quo of the English weak-learners' self-efficacy in independent college. And then through visiting and talking, I analyzed the result to find out the problems existed in it. After that I had a deep discussion on the causes to these problems from students, teachers, and the management of the school three aspects and proposed the suggestions which are targeted and could cultivate English weak-learners' self-efficacy in independent colleges. My thesis has five parts:Chapterâ… :Introduction. This part expounds the genesis, clears up the existing literature, analyzes the theoretical and practical value of this research, and clarifies the object, ideas and research methods of this thesis.Chapterâ…¡:The theoretical analysis of the self-efficacy. This part mainly defines the main conceptions, expounds the formation, function and the sources of self-efficacy theory.Chapter III:The analysis of the status quo of English weak-learners' self-efficacy in independent colleges and analysis of the causes for the problems. Taking the whole status quo and the background of the research as basis, this part investigated the status quo of English weak-learners' self-efficacy in independent colleges from three aspects such as the total level of English weak-learners'self-efficacy in independent colleges, the difference of self-efficacy between English weak-learners' in independent college and common higher college, and the connection between English major students' self-efficacy and their scores in independent colleges. The result showed that on the whole, the English weak-learners' self-efficacy in independent colleges is low, and is much more lower than English weak-learners' self-efficacy in common higher college. Besides, the result showed that English weak-learners' self-efficacy in several independent colleges are all very low, and there is positive correlation between their self-efficacy and their scores. Then, I analyzed the causes for the problems.Chapterâ…£:The suggestions on cultivating the English weak-learners' self-efficacy in independent colleges. According to the problems revealed form the investigation, and their causes, I probed some suggestions on how to cultivate English weak-learners' self-efficacy in independent colleges from three aspects such as students, teachers and the management of independent colleges in this part.Conclusion. It retrieves to the whole research process, and points out the direction of further study.
