The text consists four chapters.The first chapter discusses the meaning of aesthetic illusion and Gombrich's theory of aesthetic illusion. Sectionâ… defines the two basis of aesthetic illusion:retinal illusions and psychological illusion.Sectionâ…¡retrospect to Plato to discuss the origin aesthetic illusion theory.The second chapter discusses two artistic creation theories firstly:Innocent Eye and Conventions The former emphasis on the retina to create illusion, while the latter mainly depends on the the psychology of aesthetic subject. Gombrich criticized both theories, he believe that art do not represent our real world, but the reflection of the real world. He claims art comes from the original schema of minds of. Sectionâ…¡briefly reviews from Kant to Piaget Schema Theory and summarizes their impact on Gombrich's schemata. Sectionâ…¢explores Gombrich's theory of schema and correction.Chapterâ…¢focuses on the historical dimension of aesthetic illusion. Art history is the development for artists to creative aesthetic illusion. In the process of art history, if artists want to continue making aesthetic illusion, they must make adjustments on the schema. Adjustment of schema depends both on the perception system and the mechanism of of psychological projection. As art can not replicate the real world, the artists create appropriate context, which including social context and artistic contextin order to create aesthetic illusion.The fourth chapter summaries the principles and characteristics of the aesthetic illusion and art. Gombrich considered that the creation and appreciation of the retinal illusionstend to the principle of simplicity, similarity, unity and integrity, but the creation and appreciation by the combined effect of the retinal illusions and psychological illusion, so in the art creation, art is often pursuit of the harmony of simplicity and complexity, and pursuit of similarity on the basis of comparability, looking for a single impression illusion from the ambiguous diagrammatic icons and projecting complete imagies by incomplete suggestions.This conclusion briefly discusses the significance and defects of Gombrich's theory of aesthetic illusion.
