This dissertation summarizes the basic theories of optical illusion’s definition,history and four development stages,three causes and four psychological mechanisms,three classifications,and three semantic advantages in graphic design to systematically study optical illusion from multiple perspectives.Focusing on the application of graphic design in the field of graphic design,the six principles of optical illusion that guide graphic design are discussed.The methods and advantages of optical illusion of painting and typeface in traditional graphic design are studied.Finally,it is combined with the field of contemporary fashion communication to study on the theoretical basis Application of optical illusion methods.Optical illusion is the concept of modeling in design.It breaks the traditional art description and visual stability,and misleads the observer’s visual perception and brain cognition.The causes of optical illusion include physical factors(objective causes that affect understanding due to the physical properties of objects or the environment itself),physiological factors(the human brain’s visual system adapts to overloading specific types of visual information to stimulate visual illusions),and psychological mechanisms(dynamic optical illusion,brightness optical illusion,cognitive optical illusion,color optical illusion).Optical illusions can be roughly divided into three categories according to their representation: graphic optical illusions,color optical illusions,and spatial optical illusions.The optical illusion semantics has one more layer of "illusion" information than traditional semantics,which achieves the effect of interacting with the audience to create the effect of thinking,and often because of its absurdity,novelty,and unexpectedly mobilize the original beautiful feeling and emotional experience to meet the psychological needs of the audience with information advantages,communication advantages,emotional advantages.Based on the six principles of visual illusion to guide graphic design,six methods of optical illusion are summarized: critical method,the impossible image,edge perception,dynamic optical illusion,three-dimensional grid,and perspective illusion.This article mainly focuses on exploring how optical illusion methods are used in traditional graphic design and contemporary fashion communication,like painting,fonts,advertising posters,book album covers,product packaging,street art,interior wall painting,digital art photography,body painting,tattoos,makeup,Costume design and more.
