Yan Geling is an excellent immigrant writer who persists in exploring and describing human nature. The works she created include not only fictions of immigrant which exhibit Chinese immigrants'history, life and mental status, but also local topics in memory of her native countryside-China. In recent years, Yan Geling has combined human nature with history, portrayed history from the angle of little pipsqueak's daily life and showed her continued human concern for social vulnerable groups. With a strong compassion, she took a close look at the living of little pip-squeak who are outside the main current of history, pictured the life of marginal who are shadowed in extreme history conditions, conveyed a deep thinking on human nature in particular social and historical situations and provided a possibility to rewrite, complete and introspect history. Yan Geling shows deep sympathy and natural feelings to the ordinary individuals, bestows a tolerant and objective attitude towards human nature, exhibits respect and passion to life, and devotes on inspecting history and undertaking responsibilities; all of these make her works full of compassionate warmth.The first chapter mainly discusses on Yan Geling's descriptions of marginal vulnerable groups'life under particular historical situations in her recent works, which refreshes our memories of history in grand narrations. She exposes the fresh individual life shadowed in the torrent of history with the writing strategy of weakening history and high lightening individual's daily life. Discussing from three parts including the neglected brink of history, the vulnerable groups in historical riots and the reversed immigrant, this chapter will analyze Yan Geling's exposing of the brink of history and deep concern to the marginal, and will also explore her unique historical-cultural consciousness as well as strong compassion.The second chapter discusses Yan Geling's unique historical narrative angles. The first section analyzes her narrative strategies of forming multiple-editions of history by apposing different angles of view to show the constraints that narrative style plays on history, and further illustrates the neglect and overshadowing of main current of history to individual lives and life values. The second section analyzes the view point of a girl in Yan Geling's works. The author used that pure young girl's history experience to accomplish the construction and writing of historical memory stamped with unique personal experience, which displayed an outlook of history that totally different from adults'feeling, perspect the flexibility of reality and history, and exposed, moreover, the great traumas that children sustained in turbulent history.The third chapter discusses Yan Geling's reflective attitude towards history. She believes that facing history, to break through bounds, reflect and take responsibilities are more important than just complain, and the purpose of writing history is to avoid the repeat of tragedy after arriving at the truth and to promote the value of love and purity. This chapter illustrates the author's reflection on history from three aspects. The first section analyzes the absurd of revolution and the hurt of heart as well as the contortion of human nature inflicted by history. The second section mainly analyzes Yan Geling's reflection on crowd violence, where she explored the complexity of human nature through researches on crowd's hurt to individual and race-baiting, and tried to find out historical tragedy's human side of root cause. The third section analyzes Yan Geling's history concept from the angle of female's responsibility and redemption to history. She believes that females on the brink of history are always bestowed with vigorous, fresh, sedulous and natural vitality and fight against history's dissimilation to human nature in the way of persisting in normal personal life and pure ethics. They love and respect life, ignore and alienate historical politics, and bear the burden of soothing the wounds of history.
