The American political speeches have long been attracting widespread attention from many politicians, litterateurs, linguists and readers. The thesis is based on the research gap between the American political speeches and the embodied cognition in cognitive linguistics. At the beginning, it introduces the purpose and significance of the study, the organization of the thesis, the methodology and data collecting and the innovative points. And then it gives a brief introduction to American political speeches, reviews the researches of American political speeches from many perspectives, and points out the limitations and research gap in the previous studies. Furthermore, combining the embodied cognition and other relevant concepts to embodiment, it analyzes those political factors in American political speeches. In the end, some useful implications are proposed for language learners when reading and enjoying these speeches and a tentative speech writing pattern is provided. The thesis aims at making contributions to the application of cognitive theories, giving a help hand to better appreciate the American political speeches and providing valuable reference for language learners when writing speeches.
