Translation is a complicated process of intercultural communication, especially the Chinese classical poetry translation, due to the gap between two cultures. The analysis on cultural factors is favor of achieving the success of poetry translation. This thesis discusses the connotation and the embodiment of culture in Chinese classical poetry, and analyzes the cultural loss in poetry translation as well as researches some compensation strategies in terms of Functional Equivalence Theory. Its final goal is to realize the functional equivalence on image, rhyme, rhythm and others between Chinese classical poetry and its version.
