The creative works of Zhang ailing are similar with Austen's, but the styles of their works are different. The paper analyzes the irony of the works to find the familiarity and difference of irony between Zhang ailing and Austen's works. Then looking for the reason about the difference of irony.Zhang ailing and Austen chose irony as the mode of showing attitude toward life consciously in two ways:verbal irony and situational irony. The difference of using irony between Zhang ailing and Austen manifested in gentle irony that embodies easy style and positive values and destructive irony that concludes calm style and helpless feeling.The images of fiction reflect the sense of great powers and comfortable feeling in Austen's works. Zhang loved Chinese traditional culture which collapsed in great times, so in Zhang ailing's fictions, which conclude that the female pursued marriage hopelessly, the past memories is incompatible with the great times.
