Tangjunyi On The Religious Characteristic Of Confucianism

Tang Junyi, as an important representative of Neo-Confucianism, was called as "a Giant of the Cosmos of Cultural Consciousness". One of his main aims is to seek the answer of the development problem of the future culture of China from the way to investigate the value and spirit of Chinese traditional culture. His job of creative expounding and exploring the religious characteristic of Confucianism is a key link for him to seek the answer of development problem of Chinese culture.The article is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter which is a preface, the author will firstly give a brief introduction on Tang Junyi, and then review the disputes on the religious characteristic of Confucianism in the past 100 years, and look back scholars'research on Tang Junyi's problem of the religious characteristic of Confucianism.In the second chapter, the author discusses the times and theoretical background of the religious characteristic of Confucianism, and points out that it is under a presupposition of the logic possibility of scholarship's development that Tang Junyi has his identity of the value of the profound connotation of western culture religion and unique understanding of what religion is. In the third chapter, the author discussed Tang Junyi's thought of the religious characteristic of Confucianism. And in the concrete process of discussion, the author shows the feature of his religious characteristic of Confucianism. Firstly, the author discusses the religious characteristic of the spiritual aspect of Confucianism and religious characteristic of formal aspect of "San Ji". Then, the author analyses the reason why the religious characteristic of Confucianism can remove the conflicts among the main religions in the world.The forth chapter is the conclusion of this essay, in which the author made a summary remark on Tang Junyi's thought of the religious characteristic of Confucianism. Firstly, the author pointed out the meaning of Tang Junyi's religious characteristic of Confucianism in his system of thought. Secondly, the author discussed that Tang Junyi's religious characteristic of Confucianism is a quest to the development of Chinese future culture. And then, the author stated briefly the value of Tang Junyi's thought in the ideological history of the contemporary Neo-Confucianism. At last, the author indicated Tang Junyi's view of religion and the theoretical contribution to remove the conflicts among the main religions in the world. Under this way, the value of this article is displayed.
