Academic circles at home and abroad have been lack of a holistic view to study the images of Our Ancestors Trilogy at present and their perspectives of studies are more single and their research methods are fewer. Besides, they mostly are likely to analyze these three images of the ancestors in Our Ancestors Trilogy from views of the Theme, the Narrative Art, the Aesthetic Style and by methods of the Social-Historical Criticism and the Myth-Prototype Criticism, and the Psychoanalytic Criticism. However, there should be more reading room for interpretation and we also should adopt a variety of comprehensive criticism about those classic works such as Our Ancestors Trilogy. Therefore, this thesis will adopt a new Synthesized perspective, integrating Freud's Psychoanalytic Criticism, the Social-Historical Criticism and the Text-Reading Criticism, and then to study the images of the three ancestors in Our Ancestors Trilogy. First, this thesis will analyze deeply the internal schizophrenic personalities of these three ancestors. Second, this thesis will excavate the writer's creative motivation Connecting the writer's creative intent, his creative features and the social background. Finally, the thesis will make a general study by putting these three images into the similar images of the 20th century of literary history, and reveal the historical meanings and values of the times in these three images. The body of this thesis is divided into three chapters:The first chapter emphasizes the image of Viscount Medardo in The Cloven Viscount. He is the image of the split personality. the Viscount's personality system is divided, so his Ego cannot adjust relationships between his Id and the external environment, his Super-ego and the external environment, causing all kinds of relationships occur to the opposition and conflicts. This first chapter is divided into three parts. First of all, the first part mainly analyzes the conflicts between his Id and the external environment, including the conflicts between his Id and the natural environment, and the conflicts between his Id and personal relationships. His evil Id always wants to kill Animals and Plants in Nature, so he undermines the harmony and the original integrity of the Nature. And, owing to the release of his evil impulse, his evil Id is always in conflict with the interpersonal relationships, threatening the lifes of his family members, his lover and villagers and losing other people's properties. Secondly, the second one lays emphasis on the conflicts between his personal ideal and the external environment, including the conflict between his views about love and his lover's, and the conflict between his ideas of social transformation and the villagers'. In his eyes, the ideal love should not have any desire components, so this view doesn't meet the normal requirements of the human nature, and therefore his ideas are in conflict with his lover's concepts. Besides, his ideal of the social transformation is not adapted to the actual needs of the social environment at that time, undermining the rights of the villagers, thereby causing the conflict between him and villagers. Finally, the final one focuses on the conflict between his Id and his Super-ego. Because his Ego is driven to the unconsciousness by the oppression of the external environment, so his Ego is unable to adjust to his Id and his Super-ego, causing the conflict between them. The second chapter places emphasis on the image of Baron Cosimo in The Baron in the Trees. He is the image of the lonely resister. He chooses the weird way of living on the trees and this way is not received by that community, producing a sense of isolation between him and people living on the ground with, so his resistance is lonely, without external help and assistance. This chapter is divided into two parts. Firstly, the first part writes the Human nature of the Baron is suppressed by the external environment before climbing up the trees. This kind of suppression focuses on his humanity is oppressed by his family environment. For example, his parents always bind his nature of the freedom-loving. Howerer, when he realizes this situation, he quickly takes a series of actions to rebel animies and gains the success. Secondly, this second one writes the Baron gradually becomes a man of the Enlightenment after climbing up the trees and he is also the image of the rebel. For example, the Baron's Ego takes positive measures to improve the external environment in order to suit his need to survive. But because of the very strong pressure of the external environment, his Ego is unable to adjust the relationship between his Id and the external environment, leading to the lack of needs of love and his desire and passion. At the same time, this part also writes that his Id cannot realize that the backwardness of the external environment, and his ideal of the Super-ego is far out of this environment, therefore, his ideal of the Super-ego does not finally become the beautiful reality. The third chapter mainly analyzes the image of knight Agilulf in The Nonexistent Knight. He is the image of the incomplete personality system. In addition to the existence of his Super-ego, his Id and Ego are missing, so his personality system is broken and incomplete. This chapter is divided into two parts. First, the first part focuses on the conflicts between his Super-ego and the external environment. Take an example, his ideal of the Super-ego is rigid and inflexible, not adapting to the outside environment, so it is incompatible with the reality. Owing to the lack of his Ego, he isn't unaware of the changes in the environment and able to meet the changing situation. Second, this part writes that because of the lack of his Id in his personality system, there are not only life and death instincts, but also the sexual instinct. In a word, his personality system is very incomplete. This thesis can make a conclusion about the three images of Our Ancestors Trilogy in the end. And this thesis also discusses special characteristics of these three images in Our Ancestors Trilogy, including the strong color of fairy tale, the rich imagination and creativity, the strong fable color and deep philosophical means. Then, this thesis can find out that the three images of our ancestors are rich in the Modernity and the Historicality. Finally, this thesis makes a general comparison by putting these three images into the similar images of the 20th century of literary history, and reveal the same historical meanings.
