Analysis Of The Irony Rhetoric Of Film

Irony is one of the common rhetoric methods. It always has the implied meaning which intense impact the literal meaning. Film is art form that joins multiple elements adding audio-visual element, but it is essentially narrative art. Especially traditional film, it narrate and reveal theme as same as novel which use roles, language and plot. Thus, the film's irony practices so that the works have had a deep feeling to mention the emotional tension and rich aesthetic and cultural connotation, with the value of Creative. Therefore, the research of film irony rhetoric has important value, as well as the figures of the film shaped by the rhetoric and the expression of the film connotation.It is in common knowledge that Stanley Kubrick is a great ironist and his ironic strength does not fail in A Clockwork Orange. And, Westward Journey is another ironic film which is popular for many years. This thesis takes these two films as example to analyze the irony rhetoric influence of the meaning of the film.This thesis contains four chapters:Chapter One introduces the concept of irony, Chapter Two and Three present the typical irony plot of the two films, Chapter Four analyzes the strategies of the irony. Finally I reflect on the irony of the cultural significance of colors and made a brief generalization.
