This paper studies the heroic epics of the middle age in the angles of barbarization and institutionalization. Four pairs of concepts are discussed:multi-god religion and Christianity, honor and wealth, popularity and specialization.Among these concepts, hero, multi-god religion, honor and popularity are the theme of Homeric epic, which still remains in the middle age heroic epics.But in the new era, the old bottle contains new wine.Heroes are still sang of, yet the freedom of smile arrogantly at the gods in the ancient Greek is forever gone; the multi-god religion still exists under the shadow of Christianity, but the setting of poleis of ancient Greece was substituted by the barber tribes; the pursuit for honor is still the goal of the heroes, yet in the middle age the power supporting the feudal society appears;the popular reading also survives,yet has already been shifted from the Greek theatres to the entertainment sites in the cities in the middle age.Heroes,Christianity, wealth, and specialization are the new elements added to the heroic epics of the middle age. The element of hero comes from the recognition of woman, and is emphasized for its important role in economy and politics of the middle age; in the cultural background of barbarism, Christianity permeated in the edition, the themes and the details of the heroic epics;the prosperity of cities and business causes the boast for the theme of wealth in heroic epics; the specialization of literature, brought by the boost of the culture in the palace, promotes the enhancement of the writing techniques.
