A Study On The Poetry Of Zeng Guangjun

The Later Qing Dynasty became weaker and weaker since the Opium War which happened in the 1840. The people still haunted by the poverty and the backward, although the bourgeoisie set up the Zhong Hua Min Guo. Zeng Guangjun, a grandson of Zeng Guofan who casted a light to the Later Qing Dynasty once, spent all his life in this period. With the help of the former studies and the principle of knowing both the author and his time, this thesis focuses on the poet and his poetry in an full and objective way.The first chapter narrates the social background before and after the Opium War and the process of the person of ideals of integrity especially the person in huxiang zone. Besides, this chapter also introduces the situation of the literature. The second chapter mainly focuses on the Zeng family, such as the growing, developing and the writing capability of the members of the family. Basing on the first two chapters, the third chapter carries on the study of Zeng Gungjun's life and ideas. Generally speaking, he was open-mind and tolerable which picked up in the experience. The simple annals is attached in the end of the thesis which gives more details of Zeng Guangjun.The forth chapter talks about the theme of Zeng Guangjun's poetry and takes the works which care about the nation, kinship and friendship. These two aspects of the themes contribute much to the whole characteristics of Zeng Guangjun no matter in the emotion and personality. Owing to the third and forth chapter, the fifth chapter highlights the mutual relationship between Zeng Guangjun and his predecessors and peers such as the huxiang school, tongguang school and the new poetry school, besides, it also arranges the inheritance of the Zeng Family. Furthermore, this chapter analyses the art of Zeng Guangjun's poems and the influence. The merits of the poem are the plentiful idioms, skilled writing and numerous new things. There is a impact on the spread of Li Shangyin's poetry.
