A Study On "Heart" Family Words In Chinese

We still have got a lot of researches in the field-"heart meanning", not only in Chinese language but also in English language. However, the often research method is to study "heart" meaning with the theory of metonymy and metaphor in cognitive linguistics. Others are to find the same and different parts in semantic extension of"heart", which is based on Chinese-English parallel corpus. It is rare to find a study on"heart"family words in Chinese. So this paper just chooses the"heart"family words as its study object. It's going to do some researches in this field in the aspects of the morphological types, semantic types, semantic features and mechanisms of semantic extension. This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is an introduction,which first explains the reasons for choosing this subject and identifies the object of the researches. Then it gives an overview of the researches on family words and "heart" words in Chinese. At the same time, it points out the existing terms of value and meaning when we're doing the researches. Finally it tells the contents of this study, theoretical methods, and the source of corpus.The second part is the structure of words in Chinese "heart" family words. In accordance with compound words, idioms, and Chinese idioms, it does some researches on morphological types of "heart" family words. Then in accordance with the distribution"front, back and middle"in the family words, they are divided into positive sequence, reverse and middle distribution. On this basis, it analizes its structural features.The third part is the semantic analysis of "heart" family words. First it divides the semantics into five types : such as"body organs and physiological phenomena". Then it divides the additional meanings of "heart" family words into six types. Finally it concludes nine semantic features of "heart" family words.The fourth part is the the semantic analysis of "heart" in Chinese "heart" family words. It first analysises and evaluates the "heart" meaning in some dictionaries. Next it tries to do some merger and rebuilding to the "heart" meaning. It finally focuses on the meaning expansion mechanism of " heart".The fifth part is a conclusion. The author summarizes the general conclusion of this paper and some shortcomings that we should pay more attention to.
