This article selects and conducts a thorough exploration on Chinese literary works that are representative of ancient, middle ancient and modern China respectively, and analyzes the manifestation and evolution of "fast" semantic fields throughout Chinese history. The entire article is composed of three chapters.Chapter one is an introduction that illustrates the significance of this study, the current trend in this field and the linguistic data and method involved.Chapter two consists of three parts, each examining the "fast" semantic field of one historical period, from ancient to modern Chinese chronologically.The third chapter deals with the evolution of "fast" semantic fields and is divided into four sections. It demonstrates the use of some archaic words and the process of them dying out, deals with the connection of some other archaic words to the past and their development, gives an account of the birth and use of new words, and summarizes the characteristics of the evolution and the reasons therein.
