Diets and cooking are integral parts of human culture, upon which China andRussia have their own national characteristics, understanding the cooking vocabulary isa key step to explore the culture of cooking. From the peraspects of theory of semanticfields and semantic comparison, the thesis makes a contrastive study of Russian andChinese cooking verbs. Then explain the similarities and differences of cooking verbsfrom the eating habits, geographical factors and ways of thinking of two countries. Asanalyzing the whole cooking semantic field is concerned, the cooking is classified intofour subsets(water, oil, steam, radiant heat) according to the different heat transferringmedium needed. Then semantic composition analysis of each sememe in the subsets iscarried out to get the semantic field distribution map of every subset, based on whichthe contrastive analysis of Chinese and Russian cookingverbs is under way. Then findthe completely corresponding sememe, the basic corresponding sememe and the partialcorresponding sememe. Then compare their direct meanings and metaphorical meanings, analysis their similarities and differences. Finally, It aims at a clear understanding ofthe categories, stuctures and semantic meanings of Russian and Chinese cooking verbs. Then discover their similarities and differences, in order to get a more detailedunderstanding of the characteristics of these two languages. Hope that the results ofthe thesis contributes to Russian study, Russian teaching and provide some help for theRussian-Chinese translation, lexicography work.
