Philip Roth is currently one of the important novelists of the U.S. mainstream. His works repeatedly won literary awards, and got the readers'recognition and love, even favored by the Hollywood film world. Since they have been introduced to China in the early 1980s, they have a profound impact until now. His Jewish ancestry makes him a better understanding of the American Jewish Life and Thought. Although his reflection and mocking of Jewish culture have been subject to some criticism, they more like his hope and expectation for the Jewish people in the future. His long experience of American life made him even more to see the spirit and the reality of the American Jewish clearly. Although he always focused the sexual desire on the Jewish middle-class distress and grief of the hero, he intended to explain the contradictions and confusion of people. Compared with the other Jewish writers, Philip Roth is more realistic and more ordinary. He comes to no longer simply discuss the issue of Jews, but explore the common problems faced by human-beings. This thesis is about the overview and analysis of the research of Philip Roth's works in China. There are three parts in this thesis.The first part includes a brief introduction of the writer Philip Roth's life and creative process, the evaluation of Philip Roth by foreign scholars and commentators.The second part that comments of the general situation of Philip Roth's novels'Chinese translation. By reviewing the historical trajectory of China's Philip Roth Studies, and selecting 10 Chinese translations as the main object of study, from the first Chinese translation Goodbye, Columbus in 1987, Combined with Chinese cultural background at that times, the writer analyzed the gradual process and characteristics of the selection and reception of his works. Along the track of time, as Philip Roth's beautiful words goes by, the writer is trying to sketch out the pulse and ideological changes in the author's works.The third part that from the works themes and the characters of Jewish two aspects of the hero, the writer commended the research leading scholars of their unique research perspective ways and means, and their research on China's overall contribution to the study and impact of Philip Roth. And pointed out that many researchers have different perspectives were selected conception and application of appropriate theory of literary criticism, and excavated unique artistic charm of Philip Roth's works from different levels of interpretation.The forth part includes the summary of the value and significance of Philip Roth's Chinese translations.
