Henry Davied Thoreau is a famous writer and thinker in the 19th century of America.His deep understanding on nature and wilderness life practice is unprecedented in the American literature history.He dedicated his whole life and love to the nature,by writing a lot of literary works which eulogize natural,or reflect the relationship between man and nature,such as"A week on the Concord and Merrimack","Walden,or life in the woods","seeds of faith",and so on.The viewpoints about nature reflected in these works were denied by other people, because they beyond the era.The late 20th century is Thoreau's age, he was re-identified and respected,more and more people began to worship and believe Thoreau. Thoreau's natural thoughts touched lots of hearts of readers. He was known as the essayist,poet,thinker,pencil maker,traveler, land surveyos, family housekeeper, orator, carpenter.Although his life is short,he is untold.The research on Thoreau in China initiated in the late 1990's and began to be a hotspot in the last few years. In my opinion, it's very important for us to understand the meanings in Thoreau's works comprehensively and accurately,by studying Thoreau's thoughts on nature.This article is divided into two parts. The first part explores the causes of Thoreau's views of nature,his nature thoughts content and philosophy meanings. Thoreau's personal growth experience, social and cultural background play an important role in the process of Thoreau's nature thoughts. Thoreau born and died in Concord.In fact ,all through his life, Thoreau's real professional is roaming and reaserching Concord's nature. His special nature thoughts come from his wild practice. His nature thoughts beyond the age where he was, jumped out of the barriers of Transcendentalism.With his keen insight,he awared that all the nature world are live, people just was a part of it.If people want a better life,they must return to and integrate with nature.The second part mainly discusses the position of Thoreau's nature thoughts in the process of western views on nature, and the influence of his thoughts in history and nowadays. Thoreau's view of nature is unique in the whole history of the Western , his holistic views of nature separate with the western tradition which has emphasized the things against me---tempting to conquer the nature. It should be recognized that Thoreau's nature thoughts is not only forward-looking and affect many aspects of modern lifestyles, but also affect the development of contemporary environmentalism.At present,our country is being in the critical period of thansforming economic growth pattern and spiritual crisis. Many of Thoreau's ideas should be drew for using, because Thoreau's views of holistic nature are similar with'Theory that man is an integral part of nature'which advocated by our ancestors. It should be said that Thoreau belongs to the United States, but also should be a part of contemporary China.
