Bozan Jian The Study Of Chinese Historians

The most representative achievements of Mr. JIAN Bozan in Chinese historystudy, are those commentaries to several historiographers. This article starts with thesecommentaries, explores Jian's researches on ancient historiographers and neoteric andmodern historiographers firstly. By analyzing Jian's studies on ancienthistoriographers, such as SI maqian, LIU Zhiji, SI Maguang, we can conclude threecharacteristics of ancient historiographers that valued by Jian Bozan-groundbreakingof Si Maqian, criticalness of Liu Zhiji, and strict and conscientious attitude of SiMaguang in historical study. These three characteristics are not only the tradition ofChinese historiography, but also the essential spirits of realistic historiographydevelopment. Secondly, how to combine the Marxism with Chinese historiography, isthe theme in Jian Bozan's communications with neoteric and modern historiographers,including three times of criticizing to Hu Shi, and conversations on different opinionsto situation and development of Chinese history. The keynote is about the explorationon Marxism historical issues. After combining these research and analysis on severalChinese historiographers, we can conclude that Jian Bozan has his unique featuresamong Chinese historiographers, even in the research of Chinese history-Marxismhistorical theory combining with reality, of great debating, and emphasizing historyeducation. And his analysis and conclusion on Chinese historiographers, reflects hisinspiration and enlightening to later generations that we should pay more attention onconnecting history with reality closely while we inherit and develop Chinesetraditional historiography.
