The period that lasts from the first year to the twenty-third year in Kaiyuan reign is an transitional one of great significance of the Tang Dynasty. During those twenty-three years, Emperor Xuanzong carried out drastic and comprehensive reforms in politics, society, culture as well as indoctrination with the help of officials like Chong Yao, Shuo Zhang and Jiuling Zhang. The reform involved political measures such as the reduce of staff for redundancy and the impairment of Mansion Army System. They also conducted certain exploration on political indoctrination.The indoctrination under Emperor Xuanzong often swings:At the early stage, Prime Minister Chong Yao implemented confucianist education to ensure a stable regnum and appease struggle in the court which will bring hurts to the new country.The Emperor himself made annotation on Confucian Classics XiaoJing, which shows his emphasis on the Confucianism. With all this effort, the Tang Dynasty achieved social stability and economic prosperity, which finally led to Emperor Xuanzong's complacency.For his personal preference, he promoted a crop of literators to recreate by writing poems and singing. At the same time, he communicated with some Taoists and monks. This means that Taoism and Buddhism were placed in the same position as Confucianism. And the indoctrinated policies began to change as well. Except for Emperor Xuanzong's personal preference, the game between old aristocratic and civil officials for their own interests is also the reason for it.The research subject of this paper is the game between representatives of old aristocratic and civil officials. This paper tries to study how they affected the indoctrinated policies by making using of religious elements.
