Kim Ki-Duk is a maverick director in Korea contemporary movie circle.Thoug h he hasn't received any theory of films, Kim Ki-Duk maintaining to produce one film per year by his extra talent and diligence. He won many awards suc h as the best director prize on famous film festival including Berlin, Venice in ternational film festival and also gained a distinguished reputation in Europe. He gets used to doing the job of scriptwriter and director at the same time. He was fond of performing the sex, violence, death in his works and connec ted the desire with tragedy together naturally and harmoniously. There exists characteristics of cruelty, margin, violence, self-examination and restraint. You can find that Kim Ki-Duk holds his own space on World Film Circle by specia I subject and individualized phantom style. That is to say, it is his special sub ject and individual phantom that holds his own steady space on world film ci rcle. The offbeat director often gives audiences shock, affect them from the b ottom of heart with his works. His film doesn't belong to commercial film an d let audiences see our reality, society more clearly.Kim Ki-Duk has produced 15 films so far, always small cost, low budget, sh ort cycle but high quality and rich in performing style. He liked to star neith er handsome man or pretty woman nor famous actor or actress, but always payed his attention to margin people. Almost every film he made caused a bi g controversy. After he made his first film The Crocodile in 1996, his eyespot didn't move from the margin people of society to anywhere else. He had b een concerned about human's ugly nature and desire which are always impos sible to fulfilled. Though his films have been regarded as abnormal, pornograp hic, violent or sanguinary for a long time, in fact Kim Ki-Duk just use these t o discuss human-being's existence, living conditions, human's nature, human's destiny, and the redemption in the great background of the timesAt present, the research of Kim Ki-Duk's film in China was not so intensive, compared to academic study, It's common to read the introductions about hi s film, interviews of him or essays on the net or magazines. Instead, the expl icit and systematic academic research was seldom to be read. Most of these papers usually focus on the theme, characteristic, style, artistic features of fil m, but it's difficult for us to reach further academic essay on types of wome n images and detail research on women. There was no one who does some work on the woman's images in Kim Ki-Duk's film until now. However woman played an important role in Kim Ki-Duk's film actually. It is easy for us to find that there are many types of women in Kim Ki-Duk's film. These women images in h is film always combines angel with devil. Sometimes they are pure and brave, so metimes crafty and suspect, sometimes tough and bear, determined and weak. They are the representative of women who want to take away from the fa mily and liberate themselves from the control of the men, They want to gain the equality of sex. They are the examples of freedom, We can get further understanding about their behavior, psychology and beauty through these wo men images, which can help understand the description of women group ima ges on a whole and help do further research in the toughness, limitation and incompleteness of women's liberation. Their significance and implication are reflection of Korea society history and culture b esides sex. They are not only the incarnation of women, but also the focus of the whole story. Women images reveal real human nature, life, fate in the world where he lives and the films also show us that Kim Ki-Duk's hard time he had in his researching and the energy he has been engaged in. So in the se paper I would like to have a try, I will start with the classification of the woman image, and then discuss the advantages or disadvantages of Kim Ki-Duk's skills of expression. Anyway, as a male director, Kim Ki-Duk scanned and shaped women in an complicated male's view of course. It always be come an interesting topic in feminism study. I really hope this new perspectiv e could fill up a deficiency about Kim Ki-Duk's film study, it will be very nice if it could provide something for Chinese movies to learn at the same time.
