Musical Analysis Of The Verismo Opera Pagliacci

Ruggiero Leoncavallo is the important representatives of the Italy verismo opera in the late 19th century,his opera Pagliacci,as a typical verismo opera,not only occupies an important position in the Italy opera history,and is one of the two long-enduring verismo operas.This thesis takes five vocal musics and a instrument music of Pagliacci as center on a whole opera for musicology analysis. Firstly, the preface part summarizes the research significance and current status of Pagliacci, and introduces the mainly research content and methods. In chapter 1, in order to analyse verismo opera better, this thesis first discussed the opera from social background and cultural background to the emergence and development of the verismo opera,and introduced the characteristics of verismo opera styles, and finally briefly Leoncavalo's life and the plot and birth about Pagliacci.The second chapter is the center part of this thesis, in order to understand the creation and music features of Pagliacci more clearly, this article analyzed five vocal musics and a instrument music from its music theme,harmony,rhythm,mode, musical form and so on. The first section analysed three arias of Tonio,Nedda and Canio.The second section analysed a duet of Nedda and Silvio.The third section analysed a bell chorus,Finally analysed a instument intermezzo.The third chapter is the social and historical analysis. This chapter firstly analyzed social history environment of opera, and combining with Leoncavallo's life experience analyzed the spirit connotation of the opera deeply, than we have a higher level of understanding to this opera. At last, analyzed the declination of verismo opera.Through analysis, we concluded that the verismo opera is the birth of a kind of opera in certain social and historical conditions, and Pagliacci with the historical trend, then became the pet of that time. Choice of subject is an important aspect of its success, from the development process of verismo opera, from its source La Traviata to the twentieth century expressionist opera, verismo opera play an important role of bridge. In writing, although Leoncavallo deviates from the romantic ideal, but his opera in late nineteenth century after all, many creation technique shows characteristics of that period, and the verismo opera played an important role in the process from traditional techniques to modern techniques.The verismo opera, although was existing only abut thirty years at that time, but is an unique opera with its characteristic of real subject in the historical;Leoncavallo, as a representative of the verismo opera, "an opera composer", represents an opera school;Pagliacci, as the most influential one of the verismo opera, not only in flurishing at that time, but will also be shining with its unique stance in future opera stage.
