Study Of The Chinese Morbid Euphemism

Euphemism is a universal and common used linguistic phenomenology in Chinese. It has various formation ways like pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. Also it has many different types that relate to different aspects in our life, no mater from the aspects of the function, pragmatics or euphemistic objects or other aspects. And this paper analyzes the Chinese morbid euphemism in 3 chapters-its type, its formation causes, as well as the social and cultural phenomena it presents.Chinese morbid euphemism can be divided into different types in different standards. Based on the characteristic of the Chinese morbid euphemism along with Chinese pragmatic habits, the first chapter investigates the types of the Chinese morbid euphemism from the location of disease, formation devices, related targets, parties of discourse, color meaning, rhetoric and so on. Accordingly, we can have the preliminary knowledge of Chinese morbid euphemism. In Chinese, there are so many types in morbid euphemism, mainly for its formation causes. In the second chapter, this paper investigates in-depth the formation causes of Chinese morbid euphemism from 3 aspects-culture psychology, the requirement of linguistic communication and pragmatic principle. Under pragmatic principle, the author analyzes the Chinese morbid euphemism formation by the cooperative principle raised by famous linguistic philosopher Grice in America and the politeness principle which is more suitable for Chinese language characteristic raised by Chinese linguist Gu Yueguo. By the study of the type and the causes of formation of Chinese morbid euphemism in the first two chapters, we can see that there are countless ties between language and social culture. Then, in the third chapter, the author studies some social cultural phenomenon reflected by Chinese morbid euphemism like the apparent social rank differences, the paradoxical views about disease, Wine Culture, wild venereal disease in old society and so on.In order to study the Chinese morbid euphemism, this paper adopts new perspectives and multi angles, also this paper utilizes learning branches like cultural linguistics, social Linguistics, fuzzy linguistics and pragmatics which is related to morbid euphemism. There are two innovation points for this paper:Firstly, this paper studies the formation of Chinese morbid euphemism from the cooperative and polite principle of pragmatics. Secondly, this paper studies Chinese social cultural phenomenon reflected by Chinese morbid euphemism from the angle of language and culture connection. I wish this paper can serve as a modest spur to induce people to know the morbid euphemism and come forward with his further valuable contributions.
