It was in the1920s when situation comedy appeared in the BBC broadcast station for the first time as a new television form, since then, it develops itself in a thriving way until today, and occupies a very important position in the film and television field. As it develops, the study of situation comedy grows up as well, and offered a new topic to research for related fields. There are many ways to start the study of situation comedy, for recently years, many scholars and people of related fields have made deep research into situation comedy from aspects like sociology, ethics, literature, art, movie and television, music, translation and so on. However, it is still a new direction to analyze situation comedy from the viewpoint of linguistic. It is of great significance to combine linguistic together with situation comedy, it is a good opportunity to help the audience appreciating situation comedy through a scientific viewpoint, it can not only help the Chinese audience to have a better understanding towards the English television work, and also enrichs the research theory of situation comedy. This paper will start its research from the wide aspect of linguistic, and choose two theories as its theory foundation, which are Gracie’s cooperative theory and its quantity maxim, quality maxim, relation maxim, and manner maxim and the Politeness theory and its tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim. It will mainly analyze how the humorous effect come into being in the English situation comedy Two Broke Girls under the guidance of the two linguistics theories listed above, and will also make a comparative study of the reasons explained by the two theories, and come into a conclusion finally.Two Broke Girls was fist shown on the CBS of America on September the19th. It is a situation comedy created by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings. The story happened in Brooklin "New York, which tells a story of Max Black and Caroline Channing, Max is a poor but funny waitress, and Caroline used to be a rich girl, but becomes a waitress after her father broke down. The story describes how the two girls become friends and created one by one interesting episodes based on their daily life. On the38th People Election Award of America, Two Broke Girls won the honor of the most popular new situation comedy. The dialogues in this play are of lively feature, especially for the two heroines, their words are sharp but humorous. The born of this situation comedy offered a very good study case for film and television fans and also for linguistic learners. Besides, it is also an abundant linguistic database for scholars to study English situation comedy from the aspect of linguistic. However, as a new situation comedy, it wins a lot of honor and attention, but there is no professional scholars has done any systemic analysis from the prospective of linguistic to this situation comedy so far, and that is also one of the reason why this paper was born. Hope this paper can show the audience a level on which situation comedy is connected with science through a tiny point of linguistic, and push the Two Broke Girls forward among English situation comedy fans.This paper applied study methods of quantitative and qualitative, case study is the main way to develop this thesis. All examples were chosen from the situation comedy Two Broke Girls. This paper first introduced the two theories which the thesis will rely on, and analyzed the humous elements of this play under the guidance of these two theories; next it operated a comparative study to the humorous dialogues examples analyzed by the two theories; finally, it came into a conclusion. This paper aims at offering a better understanding of humor through this comparative point of view from linguistic aspect for readers, and helping them to enjoy the English situation comedy under the guidance of linguistic theories.
