At the end of Yuan Dynasty, separatist regimes had been set by political powers around the country. Located in the southeast part of China, Zhang Shicheng's political power, which was not strong when compared with others', protected the people under his rule from the claws of wars due to relatively stable society and prosperous economy and attracted numerous scholars who regarded his region as refuge. Under the protection of the regime of Zhang Shicheng, the scholars had relatively stable living and writing circumstances, which in turn promoted the culture charm of the region under his rule which enjoyed a high level of prosperous culture. However, at the beginning of Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang's malicious character and his hatred to Zhang Shicheng made the former murdered many people. Most scholars who survived in the turmoil of late Yuan Dynasty were ill-fated and the traditional culture loaded by them had suffered unprecedented destruction. Therefore, in terms of the traditional Chinese culture, the regime of Zhang Shicheng is the combination of great fortune and great misfortune.This paper, from the perspective of the combination of political power and scholars and based on the overview of the process of the rise and fall of the regime of Zhang Shicheng, researches the mutual influences between the living conditions of Southeast scholars, their dilemma:to be an official or to be a hermit and the regime of Zhang Shicheng so as to further explore the fate of Southeast scholars at the beginning of Ming Dynasty.
