A Designing Research On The System Of Indices For Monitoring Lingnan Dialect Resources

Chinese language resources include mandarin resources, minority language resou-rces and Chinese dialect resources. Language is a social resource, an ethnical resou-rce, a national resource, and also a part and parcel of the nonmaterial/intangible cultural heritage. In face of the global crisis over the diversity among languages and cultures, in order to save, protect and further the intangible cultural heritage, or to be precise, to develop and use Chinese language resources, we must monitor the language resources. Based on the field investigation and the device of technical analysis, language resource monitoring conducts frequent or periodic surveys, deter-minations and evaluations on language resources'ecosystem, changes and utilization.Language resource monitoring, a new field of applied linguistics, deals with a ser-ies of theories and practical problems. Among them, building the system of indices for monitoring the language resources is an important content of language resource monitoring and also is the main research task of the paper. The paper's basic thoughts and contents are as follows:Firstly, with the thorough review and assessment of the related theoretical fruits at home and abroad, especially the ones abroad, based on the sufficient analysis towards the associative research, also aided by theoretical essences and successful experience of the indices of linguistic ecological evaluation, the indices of linguistic vital evalu-ation and that of resource evaluation, a multi-layered and structured system of factors and indices is founded, which comprises the ecological factors of language, the vital factors of language, the language itself and derivational resource factors like the product of language. The system, consisting of 12 factorial indices and 33 secondary concrete monitoring indices, applies methods of Delphi and weight factor judgment to make sure the weighting between indices. It is suitable for the domestic language resource monitoring.Secondly, this paper examines the applicability and selectivity of this above-menti-oned system towards the Chinese dialect resources. From the perspective of the fundamental situations of Lingnan dialect resources, through the analysis and adjust- ment of the system of indices for monitoring language resources, the paper construc-ts a system of indices for monitoring Lingnan dialect resources, which includes 10 factorial indices and 27 secondary indices. Besides, in order to realize the evaluation function of the monitoring system towards dialect resources, it tries to give more applicable specific layer description of the secondary indices and makes a grading framework of the quantitative evaluation on the situations of the dialect resources. By this way, the indices for monitoring the dialect resources are applicable in real use and also the digitization of monitoring systems is laid foundations for.Finally, taking the four Chinese dialects in Hezhou City which is situated in the northeast of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as example, this paper interprets the problems that occur in the real specific application of the system of indices for monitoring Lingnan dialect resources.
