Shanren is a group of refugees who were excluded from the civil service system and impressed the influential officials with poetry or Painting to gain money for living. Their living way not only similar with the poor scholar's of other dynasties, but has their own new features.so which showed the characteristics of diversification and fluidity. Meanwhile, the mentality of Shanren is very complex which include benefit mankind thought influenced by traditional Confucius education as well as hermit mentality after the failure of imperial civil examination. They also have morbid state of banter life as well as knight errant manner of regarding money as dirt and helping the poor. On social interaction and entertainment, Shanren not only contact with the people cherishing the same ideals, but also with the upper bureaucracy. Some even are very closed to the prostitutes. Overall, Shanren's living conditions, mental attitude, cultural state, social interaction as well as entertainment are very complex.They are representative of the late Ming Dynasty culture.
