Research On The Living Conditions Of The Wa Village Entertainment Culture

China is a country with various ethnics groups. With the socio-economic development of the minority ethnic regions, their culture and recreational style has undertaken unprecedented changes. To investigate these changes and to understand the current status of entertainment of ethnic regions, are vital to apprehend local economic development, cultural inheritance, transition of social values and etc. Based on previous studies, applying the theories and methods of sociology, this paper depicts the picture of recreation culture of Va people village, and analyze the influence of economic, social, and cultural elements on Va village culture in terms of individual (micro), community (intermediate) and country (macro).This paper is divided into four chapters:first chapter is introduction, which introduces the study origin and significance, reviews relevant literature and theory and proposes study design. Since the1950s, the study on Va people are mostly the macro description of ethnography. Though extensive in featured study results, those theses focused on the cultural arts, seldom dipped into the micro study of villagers’ life, especially in the recreation culture aspect, which makes this endeavor the first. The second chapter depicts Cangyuan Va village’s traditional and current methods of entertainment, and analyze its features. In Va villages, though public recreational activities, such as sports and entertainment emerged, villagers’ main private pastime are watching TV and visiting neighbors, their recreational time short, form, monotonous. In the third chapter, the paper discusses the influence of economic, social and cultural elements on Cangyuan Va village’s recreational style.After the adjustment of rural industrial structure, villagers generally plant economical crops, which results in vanishing slack farming season, and decrease of recreation time. Export of labor service leads to external flow of young adults, increasing the labor pressure of the remaining villagers, which further reduce villagers’recreation time. Va people enjoys drinking tea and liquor, instead of other recreational activities, they prefer to stroll out and chat with people, eating, drinking and singing. The last chapter is conclusion, summarize the logic of this paper, and put forward suggestions for developing recreation life of ethnic minorities in rural regions.Only with a combination of rapid advancement of agricultural science and farming techniques, further improvement of production efficiency of rural areas, transition of villagers’recreational values, widespread promotion of scientific recreation methods, and devotion of both human and financial resources, will ensure the healthy evolvement of Va villages, and effectively improve the quality of cultural life in villages.The status of entertainment and recreation is closely related to every one’s quality of life, a measurement of national productivity, an index of social civilization, the fruit of material and spiritual civilization. To establish modern, civilized and scientific entertainment style is a necessity and vital target of constructing socialism new countryside.
