"Case" is a common phenomenon of languages, which is a basic concept of a language, whether there are overt case markers or case forms or not.Case can be divided into "abstract Case" and "morphological case" Hence, accusative consists of "accuasative Case" and "accusative case"At first, this thesis classifies accusative Case according to Case Theory, which is divided into accusative Case of verb and accusative Case of preposition in English, while there's only one accusative Case of verb in Korean. On the basis of classification, it makes a constrastive anaysis on monotransitive construction and ditransitive construction between English and Korean, as well as constructions including prepositional phrases in English and corresponding expressions in Korean. During the process, we obtain the corresponding relations between abstract Case and morphological case by analyzing case alternation in Korean. Then, this thesis makes a constrastive anaysis on syntactic functions of accusative case between English and Korean, and shows the difference between English prepositions and Korean case particles on the function of case assignment. Furthermore, it makes a constrastive anaysis on semantic relations of accusative case and other constituents between two languages, and explores the relations between noun phrases with semantic roles and English prepositions, as well as noun phrases with semantic roles and Korean case particles. On the basis of the foregoing description and contrastive analysis, it draws the conlusion that not all morphological cases correspond to abstract Cases by one-to-one in Korean, Korean case particles are position markers of syntactic functions without the function of case assignment, and there is one-to-many or many-to-one relation between noun phrases with semantic roles and English prepostions, as well as noun phrases with semantic roles and Korean case particles.
