As one of the most famous masterpieces of Edward Yang, A Brighter Summer Day makes the critics labeled him as alienated, cold and sharp. But this paper is aiming to deny this criticism. The first part is aiming to analyze the polyphonic structure of the complex historical and cultural background, different regional characteristics and philosophy of plenty of lives. Meanwhile, how Edward Yang handling the details also shows the movie is not only a reconstruction of juvenile delinquency, but also supplies dimensional visions of 1960's Taipei. The second part of the paper is looking for what kind of relationship between the movie and the audience by Edward Yang, by analyzing the long take, the switch between the lightness and the darkness, and the combination of the sound and pictures.
