The first part is aiming to analyze the polyphonic structure of the complex historical and cultural background, different regional characteristics and philosophy of plenty of lives. Meanwhile, how Edward Yang handling the details also shows the movie is not only a reconstruction of juvenile delinquency, but also supplies dimensional visions of 1960's Taipei.
