A View On The Development Of Army Dance In The Period Of "Seventeen Years" (1949-1966)

This master's thesis focuses on the army dance during the period of so called "seventeen years", which gives a brief introduction of army dance's development process in that piece of time. Through detailed dancing samples, this thesis analyzes the army dance's political connotations and art styles of the time, and induces its historic status and far-reaching implications on posperity.This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter is an overview of the army dance in the period of "seventeen years", in which two sections are used to introduce its definition and different stages. The second chapter talks about the political connotations of the army dance during that period. Through four sections' illustration, we can see that army dance has a vocation of serving the soldiers, and it has deep ideological connotations besides its art achievements. The third chapter is about the artistic achivements of the said dance. There are two sections in it discussing army dance's creation concepts and regional characteristics respectively. The fourth chapter comes to the status and implications of the army dance of "seventeen years", proving through facts that army dance is indeed the cornerstone of Chinese Contemporary Dance.The army dance during "seventeen years" becomes a classic of the age by its strong political connotations, unique creation concepts, sublime and torrential momentum, and a strong national style.
