Nowadays, as commodities, film and television works begin to enter the cultural consumption market and become increasingly popular in today's "global village". Video works of overseas are also prevailing in China, especially the hot American sitcom friends which is already a overlord of prime time of its own television screen is extremely welcomed by Chinese audience, while our native sitcoms are still among the borderland of Chinese TV programs, which arouse my attention to dig out the reasons. This dissertation targets the discovery of the reasons of its popularity of friends in China and also flaws of Chinese native sitcoms, so as to promote the quality of Chinese native sitcoms.Through the case study of friends, by adopting the methods of reception-aesthetic and comparison and also theories such as Medio-Translatology, communicology and so on, the first part of this dissertation analyzes the glamour of this successful American sitcom which represents the diverse American culture. The second part of this dissertation discovers the reasons of its popularity in China by analyzing the harmony of friends and Chinese audience in the aspect of aesthetic psychology and psychological demands, while in the background of Chinese changing popular culture and comparison between American sitcoms and Chinese sitcoms. In this way, the dissertation systematically discloses the real reason of its popularity in China and the strategy of the future development of Chinese native sitcoms which is putting the audience'psychology demands in the first place. Finally, the dissertation ends up with systemizing the drawback of Chinese native sitcoms and putting forward a suggestion of learning from American sitcoms in the aspect of dramatic writing and text feature, which could promote Chinese native sitcoms better development especially in this intercultural era.Most Chinese scholars' researches concerning the popularity analysis of overseas video works mainly focus on text feature, which as far as my concerned is not comprehensive. In an effort to analyze its overall reasons, the research should be carried out from an audience-reception perspective, taking internal text and external text both into consideration. In this way, Chinese native sitcom could get enlightenment from it and enhance its competitive strength in the world's movie and TV market.
