Research On The Evolution Of Liuquan Story

The story of this thesis consists of three narrative cells:the plot of Wei Zheng and Dragon King, the plot of Taizong, and the plot of Liu Quan. These three narrative cells, each of which developed independently with the mutual narration of novel texts and drama texts, got into an aggregation with the plot of Taizong as its narrative focus in the field of public narration. The story of Journey to the West affiliated this new aggregation as a structural chain which links the story of Havoc in Heaven and the story of Learn from Western Paradise. Under the influence of "Journey to the West", however, the new story failed to thrive in the Novel System. On the contrary, the story developed into another one with the plot of Liu Quan as its narrative focus in the Drama System. The dramatists reconstructed this story according to the narrative customary, and reposed their sentiment and the idealities of life in it. Regretfully, the new story fails to spread abroad. The general reason was that it was confronted with the resistance from both out and in the Drama System. Compared with the Novel System, the Drama System has its objection on the narration function, for instance, the restriction from the habit on the stage, the high demand of the time and space conditions, the instability of the narrative form and the relatively narrow and inflexible channel of story transmit. So the Drama System has to make an interaction with the Novel System and Folk Art System. The interaction, however, did not come true because of the huge influence of "Journey to the West". the Novel System and Folk Art System, which made a mutual narration with the plot of Taizong as its narrative focus, exclude the new story with the plot of Liu Quan as its narrative focus conceived by the Drama System, and made it depart from the center of the channel of story transmit. In this thesis, the Author will try to review the history of this story, and find the factors that make negative affect.
