In recent years, development and educational psychologists have showed great interests on infants'pretend play. They believe that pretend play provides many chances for practice, builds the most important environment for children's theory of mind and creates favorable conditions for infants'social development. Undoubtedly, studying infants'pretend understanding can not only benefit the theory of pretend play but also promote infants'social development.On the basis of the research on pretend play both from oversea and home and the real condition of domestic infants, the dissertation identified objectives as follows: to investigate infants'pretend understanding under the situation of reality-pretence and pretence-pretence, to explore it's developmental course, to investigate the regional difference, to study the relationship between the factors of family and social and the ability .The dissertation adopted the methods of literature, questionnaire and experiment. 144 infants of 3-5-yeas-old infants were used as subjects. The Questionnaire of infants'basic information was revised and used as its instrument.The study has two parts, infants'pretend understanding under the situation of reality-pretence and pretence-pretence were researched respectively. In the end, the essay comprehensively analyzed its developmental situation and investigated the relationship between the ability and the factor of family and society.Three findings were obtained :(1) Genarally, the pretend understanding of infants of 3 to 5-year-olds Infants rise with the age under the situation of reality-pretence and pretence-pretence, With the growth of age, infants play transits gradually from independent pretend play to social joint play .(2) The ability to understand pretend play of urban infants is higher than that of rural infants both in the situation of reality-pretence and pretence-pretence, the only- child is higher than the siblings .(3) The factors of parents'education , career, family economic income level, infants'response, age of playing partners, extra-curricular classes have significant influence on infants'ability to understand pretend. The higher parents'education, the more stable career , the higher ability of this kind. The bigger of the partner's age, the higher the score. The infants who attend extra-curricular classes have superior performance.In conclusion, combined with past research of overseas and home, we made discussion and analysis of the developmental characteristics of pretend understanding and the reasons for the differences of 3-5-yeas-old infants and the influences caused by the factors of family and society.
