The Modern Imagination Of Local Intellectual

It is certainly that Jia Pingwa is one of the writers in the history of Contemporary Chinese Literature who have the best sense of history.His creative process always went in step with the modernization process of China's reform and opening up. So the course of reading his writing is the process of understanding his change in spirit and Chinese local intellectuals experiencing the modernization in the period of social transition. As one of typical local intellectuals, his novels involved a variety of problems and phenomena in the period of Chinese social transition. In his writing career about 30 years, Jia Pingwa has been always persisted in exploring the road of modernizations in china. His works has an intense sense of the times, and also has the impression of history and culture in the transitional phase of society.This article is based on his novels since 80 years. It includes five parts of "away from home - Return of the Native", "love triangle", "supernatural". And by the analysis for the three story models, its aim is to explore the function and cultural connotation of the models, to understand his development in spirit as a local intellectual in the creative state of contemporary, and then to find out the track of development of cultural on the modern imagination since 1979 .Part I: Introduction, a brief introduction about the latest researches of Jia and deficiencies, and leads to the topic of this paper: The modern imagination of local intellectual——plot mode and function in Jia Pingwa'novel. This part of article contain the defined on local intellectuals, modern, modernity, and plot mode, and several other concepts, and the summary of the three story models.Part II: the first chapter, "away from home - Return of the Native" mode.In his novel, rural youth with pioneering spirit had to ending up their story with "Leaving", and mature local intellectuals had been well -educated were hovering between urban and rural areas. Their footprints, seeing and feeling had not only recorded the process of China's modernization, but also shown the changes on the modern imagination of local intellectuals. In the third quarter we would like to put his novels in the background to show the reasons for the changes of "Leaving - Return of the Native" mode in his novel before the late.Part III: the second chapter is "Love triangle" model. The previous two sections of this chapter which contact the specific work, reveals the emotional patterns in the novel before the late of Jia Pingwa have changed. This emotion model was transformed into "one man and two women" (more women) models from "one woman and two men"(more men) models. In the third section This thesis analyze the cultural connotations through the change of the emotional patterns in the novel before the late, and imply that the intellectuals inherit and discard about the eighties and nineties of modern civilization and traditional culture.Part IV: Chapter III, "ghost" mode. The previous two sect ions introduce the phenomena that the novel before the late by Jia changed from avoided the phenomenon of regression to re-examine it, even to return to it. In the third section, the changes of "ghost" mode in his novel before the late show that intellectuals'imagination on the modern has modified from single binary opposition to complex diversity.Part V: Conclusion. By analyzing the three main plot mode "Leaving - Returning Home", "love triangle", "Ghost", this thesis reveals Jia Pingwa of exploring and thinking about the process of modernization, and shows the track changes in mind and creative ideas in Jia Pingwa's contemporary creation.
