Wang Li-san is one of the most important composers of contemporary China. Over years he has been working on his music, especially piano music and he has got significant achievements. His works are full of personal creation, strong ethnic flavor, deep content and rich imagination, which has always attracted people's attention his works play an important role in the development of piano music in our country.In the period of social change after the "Cultural Revolution" the most impressive work is the Piano Suite "Painting Higashiyama," by Wang Li-san in 1979, which was given the first prize in "The Fourth National Music Awards " in the year of 1985. The materials come from a famous Japanese painter Kaii Higashiyama's four paintings of landscapes, but it has some creation beyond the original. The composer integrates not only his own emotions and perceptions but also his philosophical thinking and understanding with his work. As for the techniques of creation, the work is based on the profound Chinese classical culture, and combines Japaneseすべてのセクションモード(a kind of musical mode)with it. The combination of the Chinese and Japanese composing techniques make the work rich in a different kind of charm, and this shows the composer's magnificent musical imagination and his deep understanding of the cultures. It is worthy to regard such excellent works as"the first milestone of Chinese piano music in the new era."The paper is aimed at the analysis of the suite in the following four parts:Chapter one: Wang Li-san Biography, a discussion about his life experience and work in different periods of his creation.Chapter two: The historical origin and classification of the Suite and an overview of China's Suite for Piano and classification.Chapter three: An Interpretation of the Piano Suite "Painting Higashiyama" from the background, terminology content, form structure, and the playing essentials.Chapter four: Wang Li-san's style of creation and his contribution.
