The Overview Of American Mormon History Research At Chinene And American Academia In Resent Years

Today,Mormonism is a highly influential new religious in America and the world.Mormon history officially begun soon after the Mormon church established.Since the Mormon history birthing,it produced two distinct schools of historiography:Mormon history and non-Mormon history.In early Mormon history,this two parties sented in their respective positions and objectives of the analysis for the same event tending to exhibit significant differences.Then,in the early 20th Century,Mormon history had begun to gradually move toward a just-oriented,objjected-oreiented.Although differences still existed on certain issues between Mormon historicans and non-Mormon historians,but they gradually face up to each other's view.After 1950s,with the rising of New History,a new research model also leded into Mormon history reseach:The new Mormon hisroty.Influenced by the new Mormon history,there has been a large number of the American Mormon history studies of high-quality scholary wiriting,which on the virious aspects related to Mormonism,inculding general Mormon history,Mormon history in different period,as well as every aspects of Mormonism.In 1990s,as Chinese continued in-depth study of American history,some scholars have begun to cunducted a preliminaly exploration of American Mormon history.Although Chinese and American academia have obtained a great deal of achievements,it still have some shortcomings:ingoring Mormon Church organizations,Mormons and"gentile"relation in Utah territory;the American Mormon history after World Warâ…¡,as well as comparative study of Mormonism and American other new religious ,is not engouh in-depth.The article consists of the following four parts:Part one:It introduce American Mormon history concept,the new Mormon history, Mormon- related research institutions,periodical literatuers and book publishers.Part two:It analyzes internation research about American Mormon history, especially in US.Part three:It analyzes domestic American Mormon history research,inculding Hong Kong and Taiwan.Part four:It dicusses some nelglected aspects in Mormon history research.
