Research On Mongolian College Students' Cultural Identification With Mongolian Culture And Han Culture

Recently many researches have been conducted in the foreign countries on the topic of cultural identification of ethnic groups. Since the culture of each ethnic group varies a lot, their cultural identifications are much different too. China is a multinational country, with 56 nationalities. This situation provides many beneficial conditions for the scholars to study. And so far there are many researches on the cultural identification of minority ethnic groups conducted by Chinese scholars. Among these researches, studies on Tibetan cultural identification are the most remarkable. However, there are very few researches about Mongolian cultural identification by now.The thesis is intended to study on Mongolian college students'cultural identification. It aims at finding out the present situation of Mongolian college students'cultural identification and the influencing elements of their cultural identification with Mongolian culture and Han culture.This thesis is based on the theory proposed by an anthropologist John W. Berry. In his research, he finds out four ways of cultural adaptation in the process of the culture-shifted communities'communications with other powerful cultures. The questionnaire of this survey is formed on the basis of the model of questionnaires used in the researches on cultural identification of other minority ethnic groups and the accordance to the specific purposes of this survey. The survey has been conducted among Mongolian college students of Inner Mongolian University and Inner Mongolia Normal University to collect information about their cultural identification with Mongolian culture and Han culture based on such three dimensions as cognition, sensation and behavior, and to find out the influencing elements of their cultural identification with Mongolian culture and Han culture. The writer has analyzed the data with SPSS15.0 statistical data analysis system. The findings of the research are as follows.1. The contemporary Mongolian college students belong to the cultural adaptation kind of Integration. It indicates that Mongolian college students enjoy communicating with Han people and Han culture and at the same time they also have a strong sense of maintaining their own Mongolian culture.2. Such factors as age, gender, and birth place have significant influences on Mongolian college students'cultural identification with Mongolian culture and Han culture.Mongolians have a long and glorious history. Today, Mongolian people are still playing very important roles in every corner of life. As a Mongolian, the writer thinks that it is a responsibility to demonstrate Mongolians'present situation to outsiders. Also, the writer hopes that this thesis can serve as a kind of help for more people to understand Mongolian people.
