Aesthetic Ablation Of The Unique Beauty In Chinese Expressions In C-E Translation

China is a great country with a long history of civilization. From ancient times to the present, so many moving and beautiful proses, fictions and poetries that came down to us are deeply cherished by the Chinese people. Why do these literature works have such far-reaching significance over the long history? What makes people enjoy them over and over again? If we get to the bottom of the matter, we can find that the unique beauty embodied in Chinese expressions is an important factor. Chinese sentences are always concise with profound meaning and aesthetic beauty, however, when they are translated into English, thinking pattern differences between English and Chinese have brought great challenges to translators, it is difficult for translators to convey the beauty of Chinese which is ablated inevitably in the process of translation. Therefore, Western readers are unable to fully appreciate the rich and profound aesthetic charm of Chinese expressions. Hence, translators often have to regret the loss of the linguistic beauty.For various reasons, different languages have something in common as well as something unique. As thought influences language and language embodies thought, their interaction will definitely result in different language representation, ultimately bringing about the aesthetic ablation of Chinese expression in C-E translation. This thesis mainly deals with the aesthetic ablation of the unique beauty in C-E translation process from the perspective of thinking pattern differences. Meanwhile, the author chooses the novel The Family written by Ba Jin as a case study to analyze the ablation and retainment of the beauty in Chinese expressions in C-E translation. The thesis is organized in a framework as follows:Chapter 1 introduces the aesthetics of language at the beginning, stating the relationship of language and aesthetics. Then the author analyses the commonness and the uniqueness of the beauty in English and Chinese.Chapter 2 serves as the main part of this thesis. It starts with the embodiment of the aesthetic ablation of the unique beauty in Chinese expressions in C-E translation. Then the author probes into reasons of the aesthetic ablation from different angles of thinking pattern, such as the ways of thinking, thinking preference, thinking method, thinking order and thinking path, which lead to the different expressions between English and Chinese. Meanwhile, occasional retainment of the aesthetic beauty of Chinese in form and content is explored. It is of great advantage to enjoy the different beauty in English and Chinese after learning the different thinking patterns between the two nations.Chapter 3 analyses the aesthetic ablation and reproduction in the English version of Ba Jin's novel The Family. The Family is a great work revealing the tragedy of the young generation in Gao family as well as the tragedy of the feudal age in China. The language art, the artistic conception and charm of this novel are worthy of appreciation. This chapter states the embodiment of aesthetic ablation in C-E translation of The Family, but this does not mean the aesthetic beauty of Chinese language can not absolutely be reserved, so the author also analyses the occasional retainment of aesthetic beauty of this novel subsequently.Chapter 4 is concerned with the further enlightenment of China's running for the Nobel Prize in Literature. At the beginning, the author points out reasons of Chinese literature failing to run for the Nobel Prize. Then two tentative suggestions are given for Chinese literature running for the Nobel Prize. First, since translation is a language activity involving two cultures, translators should form an open and dynamic thinking pattern to promote the communication of translation. Second, China should strengthen the international exchange to make our country widely known by the world. The last part of this chapter deals with the author's further reflection on Chinese literature running for the Nobel Prize.
