The Anti-Psychologism In The Logical Thought Of Frege

In logical area, psychologism recommands that the study of logic should rely on psychologism. In the logical thought of Frege, anti-psychologism always exists, and he recognizes that the object of logical study is "truth" that is an objective thing. Not only it has nothing to do with psychology, but also it must keep away from the effect of psychology for its objectivity. In mathematical area, Frege also holds the opinion of anti-psychologism, and the main working target of Frege's whole life is trying to build mathematics on the foundation of logic. But unfortunately, until now, it is proved his target is unfeasible. The logicism of Frege on mathematics means that he must hold the anti-psychologism on mathematics, because if mathematics and psychology are connected, logicism will be unfeasible.This paper begins with the psychologism in logical area in Frege's time, and states the three steps of Frege's working for his target that building mathematics on logical foundation. But the system of foundation of arithmetic built by Frege is found paradox by Russell, and is proved unprovable within system on consistency and completeness by Godel. Till then, the logicism of Frege is widely questioned. But the effect of Frege affects logic, philosophy, and semeiology so deep and great that he becomes one of the creators of analytical philosophy and philosophy of language, the father of semeiology and one of the founders of modern logic. Frege criticizes his cotemporary psychologism of philosophers and logicians, and he is the core person of psycholgism and anti-psychologism debate in nineteen century in German world. His comment on psychologism impels Husserl who is the founder of phenomenology to become an anti-psychologist, and their work impels that anti-psychologism success in this debate. Psychologism even falls into a derogatory term in academic world once a time. Until the naturalized epistemology of Quine is suggested, the anti-psychologism of Frege in logical area is authority. This paper also states "the third area" theory of late Frege for the purpose of instead of psychologism.On the foundation of review and summarization on this academic history, this paper comments the reasons that the Frege's work on the foundation of arithmetic fails. The first reason is that Frege aggrandizes the effect and status of logic in human mind. The second reason is that Frege is an ontological Platonist. And then, this paper divides the psychologism in logical area and mathematical area, and recognizes the anti-psychologism in logical area is correct, but the anti-psychologism in mathematical area is wrong.
